Description
The Highlands are a historic region of Scotland. Culturally, the Highlands and the Lowlands diverged from the later Middle Ages into the modern period, when Lowland Scots replaced Scottish Gaelic throughout most of the Lowlands.
This piece for the intermediate piano student seeks to capture the glory of the Scottish Highlands through open intervals. One might perceive imitative bagpipes throughout the piece.
It poses several unique challenges in the form of quick grace notes and eighth note syncopation.
